T-shirts

The following 2 images are t-shirt designs found on shirt.woot.com. The one is called "minor modifications" and the other is called "in harmony." They are both awesome. But I'm not quite decided on buying anything, yet.

The pluto reference, everyone would understand. But the other one is the harmonic series! Of course I think it's cool, but I don't think many other people would get it. Actually I think more of the physics professors would get it than music professors . . . and about enough of my friends to count on one hand. So I don't know which is more worth it: to teach everyone about the harmonic series, or to just enjoy a joke with everyone about pluto. Hmmmmm.....

A sad post

This is me being sad. If you don't want to be sad, don't read it.

I've been going to my current ward for nearly a year now. I was never given a calling or assignment or anything which has made me sad. I have a lot to offer. I do go and sing in the choir but that's not a calling. In the about 10 months I've been going to the ward, I had a visiting teacher come twice (December and February) before she moved. After that, I made sure to find out at least one person who was assigned to visit me, and she never did, and now she is moving this week. Last Sunday was a very happy day for me: I had just found out that my petition was approved, it was WARM, and I was finally given a visiting teaching assignment of my own! I was so happy that day, SOO happy!! You don't understand how happy I was last Sunday. Well, Monday night someone decided to turn the AC on at home and I was much less happy. Anyway, all week I was fantasizing about going visiting teaching which was happy thoughts. Today at church I approached my companion so we could plan some stuff and she informed me that we weren't actually companions. She had already gone to the coordinator person and had her daughter be her companion instead. I'm not gonna lie, that was a blow. I thought there was still hope though, that if she had a new companion, then I probably did too! I didn't get to talk to the coordinator person until after Sunday School, and she told me I did not have a new companion. Now that really was a blow. I barely made it through the opening song and prayer in RS without anyone noticing how suddenly sad I was. After church was over I had to work hard not to cry too, until I got home, then I shut myself in my room and lost it. I haven't cried so hard in a loooong time. My kitty was cute, she came and snuggled up next to my arm next to my head and came back to resnuggle every time I got up to blow my nose. But man, I sure cried. Now that I think about it, things that make me cry are often when I get really excited aout something and it gets taken away. Well, that's my sad story. Tomorrow I will be happy again because it's the first day of Science in the Parks. And that won't be cancelled or taken away from me, haHA! I don't like being sad, I also try not to label myself as a victim, and I'm not perfect, but I do wish that I would be made to feel appreciated a bit more often. Crossing my fingers. That is all.

In Other News

I finally heard back from the USCIS--my petition was approved! I found out on June 3 that they had mailed my notice of acceptance on May 31, then I got it on June 4th. Apparently, the USCIS mails the approved petition to the Department of State, and then they review it and give it a new case number and mail it to the embassy in Manila. So the USCIS isn't Federal enough? Whatever. That should be 2-4 weeks they say. Then once the thing is in Manila, the actual visa can be applied for! As far as I know, that requires more piles of paperwork, much of it the same, but since some things are expired they must be acquired again. Blah. He fills out and gathers paperwork, gets medically examined, and has an interview and then we should be set for me to bring him home with me. I don't know really how long this phase will take but our newest (rather uninformed) goal is for the rather auspicious event to go down on or around August 17, 2011.

That Thing

I did finish writing those scripts. Then one of them needed major revisions. I tried for a while but then I actually did assign it to someone else (thinking it would get done faster--I haven't heard back from the guy yet). The other two have been recorded. Now my task is to edit the recordings. And again, I can hardly bring myself to do it. Sigh. As much as I hate flakes, I've sure been one.

UTA Fail story

Wednesday: I didn't leave the house soon enough to catch the 10:31 Frontrunner, so I figured I would take the 10:43 bus. I got out to the street by 10:43, but not to the stop until 10:45, and so somehow I convinced myself I had missed the bus, and decided to go on to the FrontRunner station by foot, to supposedly catch the 11:01 train. 1 mile, 15 minutes, totally do-able, right? So I sort of ran-walked up 1700W and then turned on 1450S, and when I was half-way to Main St the bus passed me.

At that point I had 2 options: (1) go on to the station anyway, or (2) since the bus goes in to the station and comes back out I could potentially catch it near the stoplight. I left the decision aside for a while since both paths were the same until I was out on Main St anyway. If I hadn't been eating a bagel while run-walking I probably would have been a bit faster. Oops. Because by the time I did get to the light, it was red the wrong way so I watched the bus come back out of the station and turn and leave me and there was nothing I could do about it.

But that was fine, right? I still had another option . . . I looked at my watch and figured if I ran all the rest of the way to the station, and all the way in to get on the platform, I could make it by 11:01. Especially since I had finished my bagel by this point. So I took off. Oh, and I was wearing sandals. As I was running down the path to get in, I did wonder why there weren't more people coming in as well. Once I got to the concrete barrier at the edge of the parking lot (about 2/3 of the way from where I started running) it suddenly dawned on me what an idiot I was and why I had wanted to catch the bus in the first place: There is no 11:01 train. There hasn't been for a while. Like, over a year now. D'oh! Needless to say, I climbed over the concrete barrier and didn't run anymore.

Now I knew that another bus would come, then the train would come. Either option would get me to where I was going at pretty much the same time. The train maybe 1 or 2 minutes faster. I sat down in the bus shelter with the intention that I would just take the bus, unless it was late. Well, it was late. So I stood there and thought "screw you" and when it left I walked down to the train platform and then 5 minutes later was on my way. That way I got to read a little in my book too. I don't read it on the bus usually but the FrontRunner is a smooth ride. Anyway, I felt good for having ran, but sad for getting out later than I had intended. I don't particularly like that they cut out half of the train runs in the middle of the day! It's messed me up more than once!

What I do

My day began with an early-morning HARBOR meeting and I did stuff for HARBOR for about 2 hours. Then I did an hour of stuff for Science in the Parks. Then I did work for the planetarium for a few hours. Then 2.5 more hours for SitP. A little bit more HARBOR before I went home. In the evening among other things I practiced the piano for a bit (we had it tuned yesterday!). Why do I do all these things, you ask? Well, I am a piano major so I better practice that; SitP is paying a good chunk of my tuition so I can finish up my last year of study, and it's pretty fun too; the planetarium is pretty much the most awesome job ever; and HARBOR, well, honestly I'm not totally sure why I do HARBOR. It's cool, and super fun, and I get awesome bragging rights, but I don't know why I do it. Mostly I'm going this weekend so I can get a new space-pin since my other one went AWOL, but come August if a certain something comes up I'm definitely ditching the balloon bonanza. It's fun, but why go? I really don't know the answer to that one. But, I do still love my physics department! And my piano department!
